Putting proofs through their paces

The question
of time and money

What does it cost?

How long will it take?

What does it cost?

I work towards the suggested minimum proofreading pricing rates published by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). However, I am completely free to use my discretion, so please feel able to open a discussion with me.

When you enquire about my proofreading services, I will ask to see a sample of the text. This is the only way I can assess the level of intervention required and the time it will take me to produce a final proof.

Once I have studied the sample you provide, I will provide you with a total cost for the proofreading work. This means that you will know the budget needed before the work commences.

If the work is particularly complex, I may quote for an hourly rate. In such cases I will provide regular updates on the time taken and the progress made.

How long will it take?

I take as much time as necessary to scrutinise and polish your work so that I can produce a piece with which you are completely happy.

When I receive your sample of work, I will estimate the time required to complete and return the proof. This will be communicated together with my quote for the work.

With work that has more complex requirements, I will aim to estimate the length of time required. However, this may change as the project evolves.

If you or I decide that additional work is required, the deadline will be extended by mutual agreement.

Communication is paramount throughout the proofreading process, ensuring that you and I are always ‘on the same page’.
